The commission called for a bicycle parking station at the outer entrance of Apumanque Shopping Centre in Las Condes. The proposal turns that utilitarian brief into a piece of steel architecture: horizontal slats built entirely in metal, forming a continuous screen along the corridor.
The screen does two things at once — it gives visual order to the parked bicycles and marks a legible boundary within the commercial public space. The precise geometry of the steel element contrasts with the scale of the shopping centre façade, while relating to it through the same module-and-repetition logic.
The system is fully self-service: users arrive, park and retrieve their bicycles on their own, without assistance. The solution trades complexity for robustness and operational clarity. Using metal as the sole material answers both the durability demands of a high-traffic location and the commitment to an austere, direct formal language.
